ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Amanda Rife, 41 — a North Baltimore driver — was on County Road 140 at Township Road 113 in Allen Township at 2:10 p.m. on Monday when her SUV went off the road, hit a ditch and a utility pole, and flipped over; she was ejected and suffered incapacitating injuries before being flown by helicopter to a hospital in Toledo as the crash remains under investigation.  WFIN

CULTURE NEWS

  • The free concert by the U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors will be held at the Marathon Center for the Performing Arts and tickets are required—this group has performed at Carnegie Hall and major jazz festivals around the world.  WFIN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • FHS Youth and Government students spent part of their spring break at the Ohio Statehouse where they met in committees and debated bills on the floor. They earned awards (such as outstanding senator, media delegate and lobbyist) and one student was elected secretary of state for next year’s conference.  WFIN
  • The Arbor Day Foundation named the University of Findlay a Tree Campus for the ninth year, and the school will be honored at an Awards Ceremony on April 16—it will then host an Earth Day and Arbor Day celebration on April 25 and a Homegrown Habitat How-To workshop on April 26 open to the public. This recognition promotes the university’s goal to enhance urban forestry through education and community events.  University of Findlay

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On March 22, four deputies from the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office attended grain bin rescue training at Ridgeview Farms hosted by the Green Springs Fire Department—over 50 first responders from ten departments practiced rescue procedures to prepare for grain bin emergencies.  WFIN
  • Today the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office swore in new Corrections Officer Taylor as she began her service career with Sheriff Cortez presiding over the ceremony (her proud family was present).  WFIN
  • A study by the Reason Foundation said Ohio highways ranked 10th overall based on safety, condition and cost. The report noted the highways improved from a ranking of 17.  WFIN
