COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Habitat for Humanity of Findlay/Hancock County will begin building three new homes on Tuesday, April 1 (5:30 p.m.) at (Bishop Lane) during its biggest build year. The Summers, Gault and Greiner families will raise the first walls of their new homes as volunteers and experts work together at the build site.  WFIN

CULTURE NEWS

  • Gliding Stars will perform their Really Big Rock Show at The Cube in Findlay on Sunday, March 30 (2:30 p.m., doors open at 2 p.m.), marking director Cindy Bregel's final show after 23 years with a program that has helped more than 500 people with disabilities. The event will give skaters a chance to display their skills and bring the community together.  Hometown Stations
  • Heather J. Clow, Executive Director of Marathon Center for the Performing Arts, was selected as one of 25 arts leaders for the CreativeOhio Advocacy Leadership Institute, a competitive program launching in May that will train participants from 15 cities in advocacy skills. The six-month course will include hands-on workshops (site visits and legislative discussions) to build skills for promoting Ohio’s creative sector.  WFIN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Findlay-Hancock County Public Library today announced Wonderbooks—print books with built-in audio players offering read-along, learning, and sing-along modes—to help children improve reading skills. The library said the interactive books can boost reading comprehension and vocabulary.  WFIN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today findlay police officers will wear mourning bands to honor fallen Captain Allen D. McGown, who drowned during the Great Flood of 1913 after his boat capsized while he tried to rescue a woman near the Hancock County Courthouse—his sacrifice is solemnly remembered by the department.  WFIN
  • The Findlay Municipal Court will host its 8th Annual Safe Surrender Day on April 7 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to allow individuals with active bench warrants to clear legal issues without arrest—appointments are preferred but walk-ins are accepted.  WFIN
