COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Marathon Petroleum Corporation donated $1 million to the Findlay Family YMCA to help build a new Early Learning Center that will give children safe care and learning space. The center will be a $10-million-20,500-square-foot building that will offer more childcare options for families near the Downtown Branch.  WFIN
  • The Marathon Center for the Performing Arts announced that Food Truck Wednesdays will return on the first Wednesday of each month from April through September, offering food truck meals in downtown Findlay from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM. Guests may dine indoors or outdoors—enjoying a rotating lineup of local cuisine with updates shared on social media.  WFIN
  • Open Arms is partnering with local businesses this April to display free informational clings in bathrooms—these clings include a QR code and details on domestic violence and sexual assault services in honor of National Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Businesses that display the clings will help offer discreet access to support for those in need.  WFIN

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Mayor Christina Muryn announced Findlay and Hancock County are partnering with DoorDash to support local businesses through the Accelerator for Local Businesses— a program that offers mentorship, specialized programming, and funding. Local brick-and-mortar businesses with up to three locations can apply through April 21— the program will run from early May through July.  WFIN

CULTURE NEWS

  • The University of Findlay’s Mazza Museum will hold Farmyard Fables on April 6 as a free Funday Sunday event with games, crafts and live sheep and chickens—registration is required and the event will run from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.—sponsored by Hancock Federal Credit Union.  University of Findlay
  • The Hancock Historical Museum partnered with Heritage Ohio to assess two historic buildings in May at 209 W. Main Cross St and North Main and Cherry Streets. The museum is accepting nominations for three additional downtown properties (built by 1975) with nominations due (April 25).  WFIN

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The West Ohio Food Bank is preparing to fight local food insecurity in 11 counties after USDA cuts will remove more than 100,000 pounds of high-protein food from its supplies between May and September. The food bank is partnering with Feeding America and other agencies to secure additional funds and meet rising demand as grocery prices remain high.  Hometown Stations

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Findlay High School was placed on Level 2 lockdown Monday — due to an incident involving a student — and school officials and police quickly resolved the situation with no harm as the lockdown was lifted a little after noon when classes resumed.  WFIN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting April 9, Ohio drivers charged with DUI will face higher fines as Liv’s Law goes into effect after Gov. Mike DeWine’s signature raised first-offense fines from $375 to $565 and second-offense fines from $525 to $715. The law also allows on-site oral fluid tests and requires ignition interlocks for repeat offenders — actions meant to deter future DUIs — and is named for Olivia Wright, who died in a drunk driving crash in 2020.  NBC4
