EDUCATION NEWS

  • United Way of Hancock County announced that Findlay High School senior Neeti Barot has been named this year’s Secor Scholar for her academic and volunteer leadership. She will receive a renewable scholarship ($2,000 each year) to support her studies in biochemical engineering.  WFIN
  • University of Findlay set a new record on Day of Giving 2026, with 582 donors raising $236,879 to support student success. Alumni, faculty and local friends boosted funding through challenge gifts (including several $10,000 contributions) that surpassed the 500-donor goal.  WFIN
  • Tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. the Hancock Historical Museum at 422 West Sandusky Street will host a Brown Bag Lecture on how Findlay Airport went from private to public, with Anne Stoner and Kyle Penzinski leading the discussion (free for members, $3 for non-members).  WFIN
  • Findlay Family YMCA launched the Worstell Family Center for Excellence to support early educators in Hancock County. The new initiative will soon host a free county-wide professional development event (OCCRRA-approved training hours) to help childcare professionals build rewarding careers.  WFIN

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Urban Prairie Project will convert city-owned land along East Main Cross Street into a native prairie with walking paths, trees (with educational features) to improve flood relief. Funded by a Healthy and Sustainable Communities grant, the project partners with WILD Toledo and the Blanchard River Watershed Partnership.  WFIN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials announced that Norfolk Southern will bid to replace the 150-ft bridge with a 300-ft span over the Blanchard River near Cory Street, with construction set to begin mid-summer once Columbia Gas relocates its pipeline. The project will reduce flood risks in downtown Findlay.  WFIN

SPORTS NEWS

  • Findlay YMCA swimmer Tillie Abbott is competing in the YMCA National Swimming Championships in Greensboro, NC today at 9:25 a.m. She will take part in events over the five-day meet with 1,284 athletes expected.  WFIN
