COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Families with children of all ages will travel back to the 90s at the Hancock Historical Museum’s Growing Up 90s Family Night scheduled for Saturday, April 12 from 5 to 8 p.m. The free event, part of the Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation Fun for All series, will offer crafts, tie-dye workshops, live music, dance lessons and vintage shopping (at 422 W. Sandusky St.).  WFIN

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The first Crop Progress and Condition Report of 2025 from USDA NASS’ Ohio Field Office shows that cold, wet weather has left 99% of Ohio topsoil and 92% of subsoil in an adequate or surplus condition, while only 2% of winter wheat is jointing (well below last year’s 14% and six points behind the five-year average) and 8% of oats have been planted.  WFIN
  • Jade Newton farms corn, soybeans, and hogs in Eaton and works full-time for First Financial Bank; she said 2024 saw uneven yields because tar spot and wind hurt crops on some farms plus farms that used fungicide did better. She warned that for 2025, higher input costs and shifts in grain markets will be a key challenge for local farming.  WFIN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine held a Tuesday morning press conference at the Statehouse to support Senate Bill 158 that would ban cell phones during school hours and set punishments for rule breakers. He was joined by State Senators Jane Timken (R-Jackson County) and Andrew Brenner (R-Delaware), former Second Lady Tina Husted, and Dr. John Marschhuasen, and his office said many districts have already seen improvements in student focus and safety following similar bans.  NBC4
  • Mayor Christina Muryn swore in Hunter Copus as a firefighter for the Findlay Fire Department and Skyler Newfer as a police officer for the Findlay Police Department on April 7—Copus is 27, a Findlay High School graduate attending the University of Findlay who will earn his Firefighter II certification in May, while Newfer, 36, previously served with the Kenton Police Department and will join the Patrol Division.  WFIN

  • Today, OhioMHAS announced that the Hancock County ADAMHS Board received a $50,000 mini-grant to expand its partnership with Raise the Bar—pilot a Work Advance Program aimed at entry-level mental health positions and recognizing students earning certifications.  WFIN
