2026 Lee Volunteer Award winner Haley Hemker founded Special Friends of Northwest Ohio to support individuals with special needs through events like the county fair sensory day and garden projects at local farms.
She plans to expand life hacks to every special needs classroom in Allen County.

Dr. Ravi Bellamkonda visited OSU Lima on Monday to introduce the tuition free Regional Campus Commitment program that lets new students from families earning less than 100k enroll without fees — an option that will expand access.
The program will start in the 2026 to 2027 academic year.
Justin Reed, a psychology major at the University of Findlay, was named a Goldwater Scholar on Apr.
14 for his Alzheimer’s neuroscience research; he is one of 454 selected from over 5,000 candidates, marking the school’s first such honor (highlighting rising local talent).
