COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The American Red Cross of North Central Ohio is seeking volunteers to install free smoke alarms at a Sound the Alarm event at Riverview Terrace mobile home park in Liberty Township on Saturday, May 3 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteers will meet at the Red Cross office (125 Fair St. in Findlay) for training before partnering with local fire department members to visit homes and share fire safety information.  WFIN

CRIME NEWS

  • A Findlay man, Gary Spiegel, 51, was arrested at 404 Lester Ave. during a METRICH Drug Task Force home raid at 12 p.m. Thursday—he now faces charges for drug trafficking, drug possession, permitting drug abuse and having weapons under disability.  Hometown Stations
  • The Hancock County METRICH Drug Task Force assisted by the Findlay Police Department executed a narcotic search warrant at 404 Lester Ave on April 17th at about 12:00 p.m.—the search yielded drug paraphernalia and items linked to trafficking and led to the arrest of 51-year-old Gary Spiegel, who now faces further charges.  WFIN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Attorney General Dave Yost filed a lawsuit in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court on April 17th, accusing United Wholesale Mortgage of working with brokers to steer homebuyers into expensive loans—he said many Ohioans were misled about receiving true independent advice.  Hometown Stations
  • Findlay City Council passed a resolution in support of the Findlay City Schools 1 percent earned income tax levy voters will see on the May 6 ballot with eight council members voting for it—council member Holly Frische opposed while Jim Niemeyer abstained. The resolution follows two town hall meetings held after a failed levy led to a $6.1 million budget reduction last November.  WFIN
  • The Hancock County Commissioners announced that the new Allan H. Davis Judicial Center will have its official Grand Opening on Friday afternoon, May 2nd in historic Downtown Findlay—just ahead of Spring Artwalk. Public tours will be offered and the Hancock Leadership Class is finishing the landscaping project to welcome visitors.  WFIN
