COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Blanchard Valley Center purchased a trailer with a universal changing table for people with disabilities and their caregivers to use at local events such as Flag City BalloonFest and the Hancock County Fair. The air-conditioned trailer cost ($32,799) with grants from local partners.  WFIN

CULTURE NEWS

  • Marathon Center for the Performing Arts (MCPA) will host its 10th Anniversary Open House on May 1 from 5 to 9 p.m. during Findlay ArtWalk, featuring a scavenger hunt, live music at the Community Blues Jam, and an art show with Hancock County high school students.  WFIN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Findlay-Hancock County Public Library celebrates National Library Week April 19-25 with free Wi-Fi, digital collections, and events including raffles for a child's reading nook tent and an adult gift set. Director Sarah Clevidence said the event supports lifelong learning and brings the community together.  WFIN
  • Teacher Chelsea Burden, who teaches high school social studies and serves as district librarian at Van Buren, received the Auschwitz Legacy Fellowship grant to travel to Poland. She will return with insights to share with students and NW Ohio educators (expect enriched classroom discussions).  WFIN

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Litter clean-up backpacks will be available from April 20-25 at the Findlay-Hancock County Public Library courtesy of the Blanchard River Watershed Partnership. Residents will report trash picked up on public property and drop off bulk trash at the Public Works Department (330 N. Cory St.) during regular hours.  WFIN
  • University of Findlay will host Earth Week from April 21 to 23 with activities like seed planting at the Bell Tower, cleanup and tree planting near Howard Run, and an Extravaganza on the Front Lawn with music, food, and games. Events are free and open to all.  University of Findlay

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Ohio Department of Transportation will observe National Work Zone Awareness Week from April 20-24 with the theme 'Safe Actions Save Lives.' Drivers are encouraged to use extra caution in work zones and join the Wear Orange Day event on April 22.  WFIN
