Good morning, Findlay. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 26th of April.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Fire Inspector Eric Wilkins from the Findlay Fire Department said residents need to test their smoke detectors and practice escape plans because the time to exit a house fire is very short — he warned that these steps could save lives.  WFIN

CRIME NEWS

  • Walter R. Hartley, a 44-year-old from Findlay with two active arrest warrants, ran from deputies during a criminal investigation near 10456 US 224 in Liberty Township Thursday morning—he was later found hiding in a trash dumpster, taken to Blanchard Valley Hospital for possible heat exhaustion, and now faces charges for obstructing official business to avoid 19 days in jail.  WFIN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials from the Hancock County Board of Elections said the Secretary of State is investigating a new tablet-style poll book purchased by a board in a county east of Columbus because it may not meet Ohio's election security standards. For the May primary, officials will use paper poll books—this change may lead to longer wait times for voters.  WFIN
  • On April 9, the House approved a new state budget that cut H2Ohio funding for the agriculture department from $60.6 million to $33.7 million for fiscal years 2026 and 2027 — a change that reduces support for the water quality program joined by over 3,200 farmers since 2019. The budget also cut funds for the Ohio EPA and the Department of Natural Resources.  WFIN

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Bill Kose at Blanchard Valley Health System said vaccines protect newborns and children from hard diseases—helping build strong immune systems and slow the spread of infections. He added that early immunization lowers hospital visits and reduces medical costs, which keeps families safe and healthy.  WFIN
