COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, community members gathered for a memorial service to honor Hancock County law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty, including Policeman William Holly in 1898 and Officer Dominic Francis in 2022. The event underscored support for current officers—reminding everyone of the sacrifice required to serve.  WFIN
  • The 38th Annual Armed Forces Day Celebration starts May 15 at the Hancock County Fairgrounds and will feature food vendors, helicopter flight demonstrations, a military vehicle swap meet, and reenactors + events continue through May 18. John Cheney II, Commander of the Findlay Military Association, leads the show + local residents can enjoy live military displays.  WFIN

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fatal crash occurred on May 12th at 10:11 p.m. when a Ford F350 hit a Lincoln Town Car at the intersection of S Dixie Highway and Defiance Pike—Dane Knapp Sr. died at the scene and a Ford passenger was taken to Wood County Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries as the investigation continued.  WFIN

  • Findlay Mayor Christina Muryn will join DoorDash and local Hancock County small businesses at 2:00 p.m. today to launch the DoorDashSmall Business Accelerator Program, which will offer mentorship, professional programming, and funding from May to July. Participating businesses include The Baker's Cafe, Bella Floral Design, Dante's Rolling Food Joint, Doughtroit, Fern Cafe, Hurdwell, Jonny Burritos, LLC, Leggo my eggroll, Stix Restaurant, LLC and Tokyo Steakhouse.  WBVI

CULTURE NEWS

  • MCPA’s Boogie On The Block will take place on June 6 from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM at the Roman-Jebitt Festival Grounds—Findlay will host live music by Amelia Airharts and Doc Robinson with food vendors, beer booths, and volunteer opportunities available. Tickets will cost $7 for general admission and $3 for youth.  WFIN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Findlay honored 144 seniors with philanthropy cords on May 5 to mark their donations, volunteer work, and community service that raised over $3,000 and logged more than 6,500 service hours – a symbol of their commitment to giving back.  University of Findlay

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Hancock County Educational Service Center, Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, and Findlay Police Department launched the Blue Envelope Program to help drivers with autism communicate during traffic stops and car accidents. Positive Impact Drivers will use an envelope that holds vehicle papers, an emergency contact card, and guidance for law enforcement — those with an autism diagnosis may contact Angie Toland for more details.  WFIN

HEALTH NEWS

  • Myron Lewis, CEO of Blanchard Valley Health, visited Capitol Hill to meet with delegates at the American Hospital Association meeting. He said federal plans to cut $880 billion in Medicare and Medicaid funding over 10 years may worsen hospital losses due to inflation and reimbursement declines — urging residents to contact their representatives.  WBVI
