COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall—a 3/5 scale replica of the Washington Vietnam Memorial—will arrive early on June 26 in Findlay and then travel to Fostoria Community Schools where it will be set up until June 30 with opening ceremonies at 4 p.m. and motorcycle escorts expected to total over 200 riders.  WFIN
  • Rally In the Alley will return on Friday, May 30 at Latham Courtyard in the 500 block of South Main Street in downtown Findlay—each Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. through July 25, offering live music, snacks and libations.  WFIN
  • The Findlay Police Department will host a free Bicycle Rodeo for families on Saturday, June 7 from 9-11 a.m. at Marathon Center for the Performing Arts to promote bicycle safety with free helmets, licenses and fun activities for children ages 4 to 12 (rain date is Saturday, June 14 from 9-11 a.m.).  WFIN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Findlay City Schools has honored Daniel Jung as valedictorian and Lilian Perkins as salutatorian for Findlay High School Class of 2025. They earned these honors with hard work and are expected to achieve more academic milestones in the future.  WFIN
  • The Whirlpool Foundation announced on May 27th that it awarded 23 scholarships to children of Whirlpool employees through its Sons and Daughters College and Vocational Training Scholarship Program—4-year students will receive $30,000 over four years while 2-year vocational students receive $15,000 over two years, continuing a 73-year effort that has supported more than 2,600 students.  Hometown Stations
  • Findlay City Schools is asking families to host an exchange student from Kawaguchi—Findlay’s sister city in Japan—for the 2025-2026 school year, and interested households can learn more and apply through the district.  WFIN
  • Simon Tanner, the only Findlay High student among 861 graduates at the University of Findlay on May 10, earned his associate of arts degree through the College Credit Plus program (the first public school student to do so) before attending his senior prom (after his lacrosse game) that evening.  University of Findlay

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Findlay announced road construction from May 27 to May 30 that reduced lanes on Broad Ave from W. Trenton Ave to W. Melrose Ave and closed W. Melrose Ave from N. Main Ave to Broad Ave for resurfacing while also closing East St from Tiffin Ave to the Railroad for curb replacement. Carnahan Ave, Scott Ct, Allen Ave, Midland Ave, Garfield Ave, Twp Road 80 also called Baseline Rd and Morrical Blvd will be closed for curb work, sanitary sewer and waterline projects and residents should call the Engineering Department at 4194247121 with questions.  WFIN
  • On May 17, officials at the Armed Forces Day celebration at the Hancock County Fairgrounds honored Carol Heileman and Matthew Risser as Veterans of the Year and SPC Hunter Melton as Military Person of the Year, with Mayor Christina Muryn and Commissioners William L. Bateson, Timothy K. Bechtol, and Jeffrey L. Hunker issuing proclamations.  WFIN
