COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The American Red Cross of North Central Ohio is asking for volunteers to serve coffee and conversation to veterans at the new VA Outpatient Clinic at 1720 E. Melrose Ave in Findlay. Todd James + executive director said volunteers must lift at least 20 pounds + work four-hour shifts from 8:00 a.m. to Noon as the coffee cart service is set to launch in July.  WFIN
  • AARP announced on June 18 that 11 organizations across Ohio received Community Challenge grants to fund projects that improve public spaces, digital access and healthcare — one grant in Findlay will support an accessible garden in the Community Garden. The grants are part of a $4.2 million commitment to boost quick-action projects statewide — helping communities become more livable for all ages.  Hometown Stations

CRIME NEWS

  • A Findlay man was arrested on June 16th after he allegedly tried to throw away crack cocaine during a police chase near I-75—he now faces charges of possessing crack cocaine and obstructing official business while held on a $45,000 bond at Hancock County Jail.  Hometown Stations

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Ohio Department of Natural Resources confirmed 964 active bald eagle nests in 87 counties from a statewide census (78% of nests contained eggs or eaglets) after more than 1,800 citizen reports. In west central Ohio, Mercer County recorded 19 nests, showing that local wetlands and water bodies help these birds thrive.  Hometown Stations

  • Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost led a bipartisan team of 36 attorneys general that challenged a federal court ruling which they said could let online gambling run without rules—arguing the court should back New Jersey in its lawsuit by Kalshi to keep state protections in place.  Hometown Stations
  • The Ohio Department of Transportation announced that on Monday, July 7, SR 103 between CR 8 and TR 187 will close for 3 to 5 days to replace a culvert. Motorists will follow this detour — using U.S. 68, U.S. 30 and SR 37 before returning to SR 103 — and should plan for extra travel time.  WFIN
