CULTURE NEWS

  • Marathon Center for the Performing Arts will present Bounce! A New Musical at 5:30 p.m. on July 11, featuring 60 summer camp students who perform the story of 10-year-old Reggie as he learns his energy is a gift. The musical was created by Denver Casado and Dave Hudson (in collaboration with Beat by Beat Press) and tickets cost $10 at the MCPA Box Office on 200 W. Main Cross St.  WFIN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • ODNR is telling local parkgoers, boaters, and swimmers to make safety plans for summer outdoor adventures—these plans should include measures like staying with a buddy and wearing approved life jackets. The agency stresses that such planning will reduce risks while enjoying state parks and waterways.  Hometown Stations
  • At the Blanchard Valley Health System board meeting, new board and committee members were named; Joseph Longo was appointed board chair, Jeff Shrader became vice chair, and Michael Denike joined the board while Kelly Koenig joined the Quality Committee and Matt Plotts joined the Finance Committee.  WBVI
  • Ohio lawmakers will return to the Statehouse on Monday, July 21 to try to override three of Governor DeWine's budget vetoes—a House needs 60 votes and a Senate 20 votes. They will review vetoes that limit school district tax powers, affect school funding calculations, and restrict county commissioner authority to lower school levies.  WFIN
  • Sheriff Michael A. Cortez said in his June report that the office closed 2441 cases, conducted 370 traffic stops, investigated 23 OVI cases and 71 crash scenes, served 199 court documents, and executed 54 arrest warrants while also handling 855 9-1-1 calls and managing corrections with an average of 76 inmates and 7,796 meals served—marking a busy month for Hancock County law enforcement.  WFIN

  • At its recent annual meeting, Blanchard Valley Health System chose new board and committee members to guide its future planning and care—Joseph Longo became Board Chair, Jeff Shrader was named Vice Chair, Michael Denike joined as a trustee, and John Quaid took charge of the Health Foundation, while William Hopkins and John Reineke retired.  WFIN
