COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Hancock County Community Partnership awarded $16,900 in grants to four local groups for prevention and wellness initiatives - Awakening Minds Arts will offer art workshops to high school seniors, Bless Up and Bloom will provide grooming services for recovery clients, Findlay High School will support mental health workshops, and Fort Findlay FOP will host an officer picnic.  WFIN
  • Flag City BalloonFest in Findlay is celebrating its 25th anniversary on August 8th, 9th, and 10th at Emory Adams Park. The free event offers food vendors, live music, a kids' zone with inflatables and games, hot air balloon rides and helicopter rides (weather permitting), with fees for some attractions.  WFIN
  • The Black Swamp Area Council’s 26th Annual Scouting Golf Classic raised over $90,000 to support local Scouting programs as 27 foursomes and many sponsors played golf at Findlay Country Club. The winning team from National Lime & Stone of Hardy Hartzell was honored with key officials (Scout Executive Marc Kogan, Council VP Sherri Garner Brumbaugh, and Assistant Golf Pro Julian Piña) as all proceeds directly benefited over 3,000 local youth and adult volunteers.  WFIN

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Hancock Historical Museum invites the public to a Brown Bag Lecture on August 7th at noon where Eric Wilkins—veteran and Findlay fire inspector—will share the story of the USS Barb, the submarine that sank a train during World War II. Guests are encouraged to bring their own lunch, and admission is free for museum members or $3 for non-members.  WFIN
  • Marathon Center for the Performing Arts received a $48,000 Sustainability Grant from the Ohio Arts Council to support its operations and continue high-quality arts and culture programs in our community. The center thanked its supporters (Ohio Arts Council, Governor Mike DeWine, Representative Ty Matthews, and Senator Rob McColley) for helping fund its work.  WFIN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Blanchard Valley Health System finished its second annual Future Nurse Camp, where students learned healthcare skills through hands-on activities—preparing them for future caregiving roles.  WFIN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ohio Senator Jon Husted met with Blanchard Valley Hospital officials in Findlay to review the Big Beautiful Bill, which provides $50 billion for rural hospitals while cutting over $1 trillion in federal healthcare benefits over the next 10 years—he also explained plans to tighten Medicaid eligibility to help manage costs.  Hometown Stations
  • The Findlay Police Department hired two new officers when Mayor Christina Muryn swore in Makenna Hurley and Evan VanSkyock + both will join the Patrol Division after completing certification. Hurley, a Mohawk High School graduate and University of Findlay alum who lives in Sycamore, and VanSkyock, a Versailles High School graduate who interned locally, will attend the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy at Owens Community College + they will earn their Ohio Peace Officer Certification before joining the department.  WFIN

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Hancock County Parkinson’s Network has approved funding for two local projects to help people and caregivers affected by Parkinson’s. The first project from 50 North will enhance their exercise program with specialized training and tailored classes—while the second from Awakening Minds Art will offer monthly therapeutic art sessions.  WFIN
