COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Registration is open for volunteer teams and agencies to join United Way of Hancock County’s Fall Days of Caring on Sept. 22-24. Volunteer groups must register by Sept. 10 to be matched with projects such as landscaping and repairs — helping local agencies save funds for other essential services.  WFIN

CRIME NEWS

  • On August 6th, the Hancock County METRICH Drug Task Force, assisted by the Findlay Police Department Emergency Response Team, executed a narcotics search warrant at 332 ½ Rector Ave and arrested 31-year-old Jama’ee Curtis — seizing 265 suspected pressed Fentanyl pills, a stolen gun and other items linked to drug trafficking.  WFIN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Ohio High School Athletic Association and its six District Athletic Boards awarded $200,000 in scholarships to 200 graduates and provided $1,250 to each high school for athletic needs—each graduate received $1,000. The awards set a record in the 31-year program and were determined by a points system for academic and athletic achievements—showing support for both education and sports.  WFIN
  • Findlay City Schools announced back-to-school dates for the upcoming school year. Grades 10—12 had schedule pickups on August 6 while Grade 9 will have orientation and student pictures on August 8 and the first day for grades 1—12 is August 14; preschool and kindergarten start on August 14 for last names A—K and on August 15 for last names L—Z.  WFIN

HEALTH NEWS

  • Hancock County Overdose Awareness Day will be held on August 21 (10 to 2) at Dorney Plaza in front of the Findlay Municipal Building to remember those lost to overdose and honor survivors. Free Narcan, testing and survival bags will be available, and agencies including (BVH MOMS, Hancock Public Health, FOCUS, Family Resource Center, Spero Health, Armada Recovery Services, Path Behavioral Health, Ohio GuideStone) will attend the event.  WFIN
