COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ At its August meeting, the Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation Board of Trustees approved $901,443.87 in grants to support local groups with community needs such as cultural events, food security and housing. The total includes 11 responsive grants and 46 donor advised fund grants + funds for additional nonprofit projects. WFIN
- ➤ United Way of Hancock County is launching a community pickleball tournament—scheduled from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Riverside Park—where teams aged 18 or older pay a $100 fee to support local programs. A local donor is offering scholarships for teams that cannot cover the fee while winners earn a custom trophy from Kan Du Studio along with free memberships to Jim’s Gym and a Ninja course. WFIN
- ➤ Hancock County’s low barrier housing project, Project HOME, is easing homelessness and helping people with substance use problems in Findlay by providing a safe shelter and on-site health services each day—City Mission and the Family Resource Center work together to connect guests with needed support. Since January, 29 people have received help with plans to serve 280 people over five years. WFIN

- ➤ On August 28th, Findlay police stopped Jennifer Lamb for a turn signal violation near Crystal Avenue & Eben Avenue and found that she and passenger Kevin Potts had active warrants while carrying fentanyl, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, so both were arrested. WFIN

- ➤ Findlay-Hancock County Public Library is urging residents to get a library card during National Library Card Sign-Up Month in September. Library Director Sarah Clevidence says the card gives access to books, technology, and programs and visitors must bring a photo ID - a second proof of address to sign up. WFIN
- ➤ At the University of Findlay, the Student Government Association, led by president Isiah Dante Hall, shapes campus life by supporting clubs and events like Casino Night and Canstruction while moving its office to a more visible spot in the Alumni Memorial Union—Hall said the changes will boost student involvement. - ➤ The Ohio State Highway Patrol is urging drivers to choose a sober driver and buckle up as it will target impaired drivers during Labor Day weekend. The reporting period runs from August 29 at midnight until September 1 at 11:59 p.m. — colonel Charles A. Jones said safety is a top priority. WFIN
