COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today at 7:45 a.m., Findlay firefighters held a ceremony where retiring Dave Morse passed Badge 1 to Mike Metzker in front of family, shift and friends—Morse said having the badge is what matters and Metzker, with 30 years of service, will continue working a few more years.  WFIN
  • United Way of Hancock County has launched its 2025 Annual Campaign with a community pickleball tournament and aims to raise $1.8M by mid-November—funds will support programs that help children, fight hunger, and provide safe housing. Local Difference Makers are encouraged to donate their time, money, or voice—each contribution staying in the community to keep critical services running.  WFIN

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Drought Monitor map released Thursday shows that the northern half of Hancock County up into Wood County and the northeast corner of Putnam County are in extreme drought—while Findlay remains in severe drought. Meteorologist John Burchfield said this week’s rain will be too late for area farmers as another dry pattern is expected.  WFIN
  • The ODNR Division of Wildlife said that the statewide white-tailed deer archery hunting season will begin tomorrow—Sept. 27—and run until Feb. 1, and hunters must have valid licenses and deer permits to join the season. Hunters can use crossbows, compound bows, recurve bows and longbows during the season.  Hometown Stations

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ohio's state parks won a national gold medal award for top park management from the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration—this award shows that the parks are free and work hard for everyone. Gov. Mike DeWine said the state offers more than 9,000 campsites, 1,200 miles of trails, and 7,000 learning programs each year.  Hometown Stations
  • The Findlay Police Department partnered with CivicPlus to implement its NextRequest solution—an online platform that lets residents submit and track public records requests quickly, improving transparency and efficiency.
