COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On September 29, Midwest Electric donated $14,640 to 17 west-central Ohio charities through its Community Connection Fund. The program, which collects extra pennies from member bills, has gathered $1.4 million for local projects—supporting services such as home care and school clubs.  Hometown Stations
  • The West Ohio Food Bank serves an 11-county area and warns its help is still needed after Hunger Action Month—especially as the holiday season nears. The organization urges local churches and groups to volunteer and organize food drives.  Hometown Stations

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bluffton University announced new affordability initiatives for fall 2026 that include the Be a Beaver Program—guaranteeing full tuition coverage for qualified first-time freshmen—and a $2,000 boost to Academic Merit scholarships plus a $1,000 County Connect Grant for students from Allen, Hancock, Hardin, and Putnam counties. The measures will lower college costs and help more students access higher education.  Hometown Stations
  • BVHS CEO Myron Lewis will speak at the Fridays at Findlay lecture series on October 3 about personal health and the healthcare system—free screenings for high blood pressure, cholesterol, and sugar will begin at 7 a.m. with breakfast served at 7:30 a.m.  WFIN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the new EZ Launch Accessible Transfer System at Findlay Reservoir 2 opened for fishing, kayak and canoe launching, benches, and a handicap accessible ramp—funded by ARPA to expand safe and inclusive outdoor spaces.  WFIN
  • Findlay Mayor Christina Muryn joined over 40 mayors in signing the Oklahoma City Declaration at the Oklahoma City National Memorial to support a stance against political violence. The signed declaration will be shared with mayors nationwide to encourage more public commitments to civility.  WFIN

HEALTH NEWS

  • Starting October 1, the Hancock County Parkinson’s Network will accept online grant applications for local projects that support people with Parkinson’s and their caregivers—grant awards of up to $5,000 are available from a total of $10,000. Applicants must submit proposals by November 14 and use the funds within one year with a report on outcomes.  Hometown Stations
