COMMUNITY NEWS

  • United Way of Hancock County will host Barrels & Bids: An Evening of Impact — a masquerade-themed fundraiser featuring bourbon and wine tastings, silent and live auctions, and raffles — at the Findlay Country Club from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23 to raise funds for community programs with former MLB player Jerry Blevins as the keynote speaker.  WFIN

CULTURE NEWS

  • The University of Findlay’s Mazza Museum will unveil a new exhibit called A Storm of Horses: The Art of Ruth Sanderson on October 9 — the event will feature a presentation by Sanderson from 6 to 7 p.m., book sales with autograph opportunities in the gift shop, and a campus visit featuring real horses from the museum’s equestrian program. The exhibit is part of Homecoming and a prelude to the equestrian studies program’s 50th anniversary in 2026, showcasing Sanderson’s original art inspired by French painter Rosa Bonheur.  WFIN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Millstream Career Center held a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the grand opening of its new wing at 1150 Broad Avenue in Findlay—this wing added the STREAM Center for science, technology, robotics, engineering, automation and manufacturing while expanding engineering and robotics courses and adding Manufacturing and Industrial Robotics. The $3.4 million expansion, funded by a state career tech grant and local partners, will allow more students to learn in-demand skills for future careers.  WFIN

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The northern half of Hancock County remains in Extreme Drought while the southern half is in Severe Drought—drought conditions have also expanded into Wood, Putnam and Henry Counties as released by the U.S. Drought Monitor on Thursday.  WFIN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Yesterday, Governor Mike DeWine signed an order that lets the Ohio Board of Pharmacy quickly adopt an emergency rule to expand access to overdose prevention tools such as test strips and reagent kits — the rule exempts tests for certain compounds from the drug paraphernalia law as part of a recent legal change.  Hometown Stations
