COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The University of Findlay will host a Veterans Day celebration at 5 p.m. Tuesday, November 11 at the Veterans Honor Wall in the Center for Student Life and College of Business at 233 Davis Street—area residents and UF community members are invited to attend. Retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel William J. Layer, a Findlay College alumnus, will deliver the keynote speech while the event is live-streamed for those who cannot attend.  University of Findlay
  • The West Ohio Food Bank said cuts in federal SNAP benefits have sharply increased the need for food help as more households depend on its services. The food bank will hold a distribution on Monday, Nov. 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. — over 60 new families have pre-registered for the event.  Hometown Stations

CULTURE NEWS

  • The University of Findlay Theatre Program will present Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Frank J. Egner Center for the Performing Arts — located at 1010 N. Cory St. — with performances scheduled for November 14 at 7:30 p.m., November 15 at 7:30 p.m. and November 16 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $8 for the general public, and UF faculty, staff and students can attend for free with a valid ID or discount code.  University of Findlay

  • Liberty-Benton Local Schools thanked Eagle Nation for its strong support of the November 4 levy ballot issue—Superintendent Bruce Otley said the vote will help the district plan for upcoming needs.  WFIN
  • Cridersville Elementary School has launched a new hammock garden to let up to 24 students read outdoors—Principal Kyle Cutnaw and the PTO teamed up with the Wapakoneta Breakfast Optimist Club after seeing a similar project online; the school will use the garden this fall and reopen it in spring for more outdoor learning.  Hometown Stations

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Ohio State Highway Patrol is joining Ohio’s Blue Envelope Program — a statewide effort that helps people with developmental disabilities during traffic stops and emergencies. The program offers free blue envelopes containing key documents and a car decal via local County Boards of Developmental Disabilities.  WFIN

HEALTH NEWS

  • Mercy Health-St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima launched a new Obstetrical Emergency Department—staffed by obstetrics specialists—for women 20 weeks pregnant or more. The department, led by Dr. Abeer Ahmed, lets patients bypass the general emergency room to get focused care.  Hometown Stations
