COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ At its November meeting, the Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation board approved grants totaling $1,262,356.20 to support 26 responsive projects, four discretionary awards for first responders and veterans, and 89 donor-advised grants that will fund community projects from green space expansions to local events. President Brian Treece said the awards show community generosity and will fund projects that address local needs. WFIN
- ➤ The University of Findlay’s Mazza Museum will host Funday Sunday on December 14th from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m.—children will enjoy hands-on winter fun with an interactive story by Jane Smith, a visit from Santa, and a Children’s Museum of Findlay pop-up, and registration is required. WFIN
- ➤ Used coats collected in November are being cleaned this week for the Coats for Christmas event. The distribution will be held at the East Branch YMCA on December 6th from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and December 7th from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m., with anyone in need eligible to receive a coat, hat, and mittens. - ➤ The Hancock Historical Museum announced that Dr. Charles 'Chuck' Coletta from Bowling Green State University will deliver a Brown Bag Lecture on Dec 4 at noon at the museum on West Sandusky Street — his talk will explore the legacy of It’s a Wonderful Life and reveal how Frank Capra intended the film to honor everyday Americans. - ➤ On Tuesday, December 2, Van Buren Local Schools received a $20,000 STEM grant from Pilot Travel Centers at the new facility at 11471 St. Rt. 613. Superintendent Dr. Jason Inkrott said the grant will fund STEM projects including a student-led greenhouse interior redesign (the proposal was written by Mrs. Cassie Schaffer). WFIN

- ➤ Brooke Coulter and Allison Lentz—Hancock County Sheriff’s Office employees—graduated from the Corrections Academy on November 21, and their training is set to improve service at the facility and in our community. WFIN
- ➤ CSX will close Midland Avenue at the railroad tracks today at 8:00 a.m. for rail crossing repairs lasting 24 hours—motorists are advised to use alternate routes while the city updates the project schedule. WFIN
- ➤ After the Buckeyes beat the Wolverines on Saturday, Ohio residents led online searches for unclaimed funds in November by logging about 395,000 searches compared to Michigan's 346,000 and returning almost $150 million to over 26,000 people in 2024. Ohio officials say residents can search for and claim missing funds anytime on the state website. Hometown Stations
